Won't start when warm!
1993 Mustang LX Convertable 2.3 AOD, blew the water pump and daughter overheated the car. Got it cooled back down to within range but it wouldn't start. I got it home, I replaced the water pump. Started right up checked it over and it was running fine warmed it up to temp made sure the coolant was full and the cooling fan was working. I shut it off and let it cool down enough to recheck the coolant level and now it won't start. If I understand correctly you get the fault codes from the airbag warning light on this car it is giving me a 51 code for the coolant temp sensor (providing my book works for this car although my code reader doesn't, Idid double check it on the net though). If the sensor is bad will it not let the car start til the circuit closes? Also the only thing I could find that looked like the temp sensor is in a heater hose, I looked all over the cyl head, did I miss the thing. Thanks in advance for your help. Greg
Let it cool down again, fired right up. After being driven it would start again til it cooled down, it is running within normal temp range so shouldn't be too hot. Cranks fine when warm but won't fire.
there's a possibility that you blew a cylinder. when i did that, the car wouldnt start back up right away, and would get really hot if it was sitting at an idle. but driving at a steady pace, everything was fine.
I thought of that one too, it may have slightly warped a valve (idles just slightly rough). Doesn't seem to have spark though. It kept starting til it was driven, after starting again this afternoon, I warmed it up and restarted it about a dosen times, wouldn't start after it was driven though. Started about an hour later though.
did you get coolant all over the place too? thats one of the things that happened when i blew the cylinder. coolant went everywhere, and there was a bunch of smoke (or steam, i cant really remember anymore... im tryin to forget about it[8D]).
