Thinking about getting a chip :-/
for 94-98 a tuner is a complete waste of money UNLESS you have a supercharger and you get tuned on a constant basis. Then you can adjust your tune to your air/fuel ratio and dyno tune it for WOT.
No they don't tuners can only reamp your ecu to release more hp, but even on a Cobra the maximum you'll get is around 30 or so hp. Now I disagree with Erick that tuners are worthless on sn95s, hell they can make a drastic difference in performance, no hp, but actual performace. My tuner alone took almost half a second off my 1/4 and approx 1 full second off my 0-60. Now granted I was sqeezing almost every little bit of torque and hp I had out of my old 98, but if you have an auto than tuners are almost essential as they allow you to reset your shift points to shift in the powerband, allows you to make your car shift harder and firmer which quickens the shift times between each shift, and the big difference can come from upping your idel rpms from 650 stock to 1200, believe it or not it improves off the line accelleration by a lot, and no it burns no less gas, like maybe 0.2 mpg at the most. Now the most hp I got out of my tuner was 5 hp right on the nose, so their not big hp makers, but they can make the difference between loosing and winning, hell, I can't wait to buy my tweecert tuner for my GT. Now the only reason you'll have to use premium is if you do the power adder mod, which is upping the spark advance and adjusting the air to fuel mixture (don't do that, it must be done with an air to fuel meter) the spark advance is generally the power maker and in turn requires the higher octane gas and makes very differnce in performance other than upping hp. Now you will get every so slightly mpg by upping the spark advance and using premium gas, but with current gas prices, it's just not worth it, hell I love premium and I've dropped back down to regular.

most tunners will only add up to 10% if you know how to do the math and how much hp you have know you will know how much hp you will have after.
