Like 02 said, O/R pipes are not road legal in any state, but only a handfull of states like CA, FL, MS, NY and a handful of others actually inforce that law. Now if you live in a state like LA where cops could give a rats *** you can get away with it, but if you get pulled over, don't give them any reason to test you. O/R pipes do give sixers 100% better sound, high flow systems are probably about 25-50% better than stock.

No way dude!
i live here, they dont care in florida
+1. Especially in plantation. hahah

better at what? there are far too many variables to be considered with exhaust to spit out numbers you pulled out of your *** like that

as for xeremeh, be careful cause you're supposed to have a visual inspection that makes sure all of your emissions equipment is there, but most places outside of emissions testing counties are extremely lax on it.

Well, my next inspection isn't due until next September, so I have time to find a solution, but is there any way I can get whatever muffler shop installs my exhaust to be able to slap cats back in when I need them or something? Not quite sure how that could work.

EDIT:

Wow. Called the muffler shop to ask about what could be done about the cats, and he said "Can't take 'em off." "But they're offroad pipes.." "Yup. Can't take the cats off." Does he even know what o/r is? makes me feel good about that mechanic.

Well, legally you're not supposed to take them off. They just don't want you getting in trouble for having them off, and then tracing it back to them.

Ugh. I'm just getting more and more frustrated with dealing with people on this. Is there anything that'll compare to the o/r x-pipe? all clips i've heard, and my friend who has the same setup sound nice and grumbly in lower ranges, and still hold well up there. Is there nothing that can be done?

Keep searching around for a shop that'll take the cats off. Best bet is finding someone you know who can do it, cause that way they'll know you aren't gonna go "Oh, so and so took them off of my car!" and get them in trouble too if you get in trouble.

Will do. I forgot that Fort Hood has a do-it-to-yourself garage here. Pay like $5 an hour, and you can do whatever you want and they have nearly every tool. Might as well make use of some of these goofy mechanics around here. I know it's unlikely that a cop will make me out on them. If they, or someone else does, however, any idea about what a ticket/fine may run? And still no idea on what to do when the vehicle needs to be re-inspected?

The fines will probably depend on where you're living.

As far as what to do next September, show the guy a few George Washingtons and some Abe Lincolns and I'm sure he'll give you the passing sticker, heh heh.

NOTE: I do not condone bribabry unless it will result in a f***in awesome sounding exhaust system.

Found this:
Off road pipes do not have cats making them not legal for the streets because of emissions, hence the name off road. it sould be very easy to fabricate a set up with removable cats for emissions, but im not sure wether it is legal for a shop to do that for you.

also, there is more than one set of cats on your car, the first is right after the exaust manifold and the second is in the beginning of the midpipe, when you install an offroad pipe you are only deleting the second set of cats. im not sure if your car will pass with one set or not where you live, some poeple with experience on that would have to post.

Any ideas? Haven't heard anything like that yet.
