3.8L?
don't bee too sure about beating an S-10 2wd with a 4.3L they had 190hp and about 250ftlbs of torque. with 3.73's or 4.10's those things are a good match for a stock geared 3800 F-body or 99+ stang. i had one hell of a time pulling one in my old 97 3800 f-body.
the 2wd S-10 only weigs about 3100lbs and with the 4L60E if it has a shift kit or if it's a manual with stome steeper gears it's a race. most came with 3.42's stock and were still respectable
they are very responsive engines to mods too and there is alot of stuff out there if you know where to look
they can run in the mid 15's

I drove an S10 for four years. 99-04 S10's come with either a 125hp 2.2L 4 cyl, a 175hp 4.3L 6 cyl or a 190hp 4.3 6 cyl in the 4x4's. Xtremes come with the same engines as any other S10. The Xtreme option adds a body kit, 2 in suspension drop, 16 in wheels, smaller steering ratio and LSD. The 6 cyl runs about a 17.5 1/4 mile stock. The 4.3 is a really strong engine and can be built to be really fast but even most heavily modded 4.3's (S/C or T/C) only run in the mid 15's. Unless he's dumped alot of money into the engine he's probably at best only going to be able to hang with your 3.8 in a race. Don't get me wrong though there are alot of guys out there that have their S10s running fast as hell and a sixer stang should beware but If he's just a ******** that thinks his truck is the **** b/c it's an Xtreme and really has nothing done to it then you will teach him a good lesson.
Chances of running into one of those is really slim. Even as a S10 fanatic for several years I've only seen one and it's possible that one was just a clone. I think they only made about 1000 of those. Anyways I forgot to mention theres also an S10 Super Sport that was made from 94-99 that came with a 195hp version of the 4.3L V6. They only came in the single cab trucks and I believe only came in red and black. They didn't make alot of those either but you'll run into one every once in a while. With some decent mods those will take a sixer.
Hmmm, never checked the prod numbers on them, there were several in the area back home, I just got used to them, they are one badass little truck though.

Yeah they didn't make many at all. I don't know if you ever really saw under the hood of any of the ones you have seen but most of the ones you'll run into are just clones. I don't imagine too many people just drive those around as DD's it's kind of a collectors car. Definitly bad *** though.
Quite a few of them came to my old shop actually, and they were real, I remember hearing that the local dealer had bought a 200 or something to that effect, that might explain the number in the area.
