x pipe useless??????

I heard x/h pipe gives it a more hollow, lower sound, sort of like the old muscle cars.. Rather then flowmaster 40's with trual duals. They suck, my buddys got them on his 98 v6.. he only sounds loud when hes pushin 4000+ rpms. Then he jsut sounds like a civic.

sorry to birst your bubble but the V8 sound is a minority in the world even in america for the last 80 years.
ever hear a GMC I6 from the 50's ? pure sound of power and rightly so. how about a jaguar XKE? or even a Lambo V12. the 3.8 sounds amazingly similar to these esteemed engines.
if you like V8 sound then you have a small mind. i can throw Force mufflers or Flowmasters on a 265" pontiac or a 260 olds and it will sound identical to your precious powerfull V8 musclecar but they srill only had 120hp.
to the topic at hand. an X or an H will do nothing for power on an even fire V6 like the 3.8 ford. however the X makes a nice sound but so does a diviorced dual setup like your uncle is suggesting.
i say let him do it but delete the rear cats on each side and use Force proseries muflers from www.jegs.com or www.summitracing.com
part#'s are FRC-5202 for 2.5" Force mufflers from summit and 395-5202 from Jegs.
$33/muffler with excellent quality and IMO better sound than a Flowmaster 40 costing $70-$80/muffler cant be beat.
like i said let your uncle do the exhauct the way he wants except for the rear cats and Force mufflers. you will thank me

what ive been told and what i've heard an h or x-pipe on the sixer is going to sound better then the same setup with true duals.

exactly what other mods do you have because if it's on a stock engine then it's more like 240ftlbs
Trust me, he doesn't have that much, he's just estimating as he hasn't been to the dyno yet. I'm banking on him having 225 rwhp, and 275 or so rear wheel torque. Because I don't even think he's ported his intake yet, I may be wrong, but it's sure not listed on his cardomain page. Not calling you out or anything, but on this forum giving estimates like that is a big no no, don't post that you have something hp/torque wise unless you know you have it, doing so can get you in big trouble.
Onto the topic at hand, x/h pipes do nothing for hp, but differ drastically in sound. Straight pipes tend to be loud, but also have poor sound quality up top (my opinion). H pipes are a little milder, but still loud, but have a little better sound quality up top. X pipes are the mildest sounding, but offer great uptop sound quality.

not to go off topic but in your sig i see you have 335ftlbs estimated with a Vortech on a singleport.

Yeah I know a guy with true duals, true meaning two individual pipes, no crossover whatsoever. My car was twice as loud with the mac y-duals. I'm dying to find out how the o/r X will sound.....especially with the Terminator take-offs. Though I think those will mellow it out too far. Here's hopin for the best.
Also, let me add that, atleast in my experience (comparatively limited though it is) the 6 likes back pressure. I dynoed after hacking the exhaust off at the Y pipe (wouldn't fit back on with the IRS in place) and lost some 7 hp and equivalent torque. Sounds pretty damn sick though. Especially wide-open echoing underneath the car.

an 11psi procharger will lay down 230rwhp/270ftlbs to 250rwhp/290ftlbs
also if he wants to run 12psi on the vortech he had better run an intercooler or tuning will be near impossible even with 42lb squirters
