First Project Ideas
So, after having to replace my headgaskets, I have gotten a taste for playing around under the hood and such. I am looking for a first fun mod project to do on my stock 96. A gofast project would be my first choice, but just scouting ideas for some fun.
Time is not so much the essence as the cage will go off the road shortly when I bring out the bike for the summer season, but money is. What is a good, fun, starter project that would cost less than a grand? Ideas?
Thanx in advance.

You could do an m90 supercharger swap into your 3.8 from a '89 T-Bird. There are so many posts about it here and at 3.8mustang.com its not even funny. I'm sure there are stickies on both sites also. I've heard it can cost about $1000 to do yourself. Apparently it gets you like 230rwhp and like almost 300rwtq (I believe cant remember exactly)
You could do basic bolt-on's, but its not like they are going to get you much. I've heard the 3.8's come well factory-tuned so they don't respond so great to bolt ons. But they can include things like a cold air intake ($30 off ebay for a good one), under-drive pulleys (maybe $100-200), full exhuast system including headers (maybe like $500-700).
You can get it tuned or buy a chip. Obviously a chip needs reprogramming after any mod changes.
You can get a new rear end. Buy a ford t-lock, or a detroit tru-track if you have the flow or if your going serious power. With the Traction Lock also buy new gears. I've heard 3.73's for manuals and 4.10's for automatics.
You can also get a shift-kit and higher stall converter - (if adding more power) thats if you own an automatic. I know manuals can get short-throw shifters and high performance clutches. I own autos tho so I dont know much about them at all.
You can port and polish your intakes and heads. Apparently this adds some serious power (more than bolt ons).
You can do the powerpack deal of getting new intakes, heads and cam. Now with this you will not only sound like a new ride but you will gain real power.
There's also nitrous. Best bang for the buck.
