Default Small dealer, big problems

Alright well if want the story you can look at in my other forum "rattling and squealing" but, I bought a 98 mustang 3.8 5spd stick earlier this week and I'm already having problems. There was no warranty so it was sold as-is.. but once I got home I started hearing a couple noises. 1- This is getting fixed next week but there is a balancing yoke type thing that goes over the u-joints on the front of the drive shaft that was totally loose and sitting half way down my drive shaft and 2.. Well 2 is a stinker.. T O bearing and who knows what else.

My question to everyone is this: Obviously the dealer had to have an inspection before selling the vehicle and if he did than these problems would have been noticed. So he either ignored it and didn't tell me or he didn't get an inspection.. Can I make the dealer pay for the repair costs?????

no you not ****ed if some of the repairs needed are of a safety concern.

1 question. the as-is/warrant paper that hangs in the car. did you sing off on it? if not you have full recourse. secondly if you take t back and complain and he decides to fix it for you you have him by the ***** and can make him fix just about anything else on the car as long as you own it for free.

courts don't like dealerships big or small. they are on the consumers side. threaten a lawsuit and see how fast it gets fixed

i sold cars before and believe me the as-is doesn't hold much water for the dealer

OK coming from myself, as I bought my mustang on April 25 and had to drive 3 hours one way,, on the way home at 2.5 hours, my clutch started acting up..... My car was sold to me as IS.... HOWEVER from talking to a lawyer about this... I HAD 3 business days to return the car without a problem. I emailed the dealer AS SOON as I got home that night (wednesday) and called Thursday AM several time, then again Friday,Sat , Sun along with LOTS of emails, and NEVER got a response till Monday morning. There for my 3 days were up...... I had to replace clutch, pressure plate, thoughout bearing, front idler bearing, resurfaced flywheel, new forks, new pivot, and a new bearing sleeve....It was at total of $713.20 that was parts and labor. THe dealer I bought it from wanted me to bring it to him so he could fix it, but there was NO way Icould get it back the180 miles I was from him, soI tookit to the local ford dealership here.THankfully the dealer I bought it from told me he would pay $400 of the bill for me, so I need to be thankful that he did that, but the way he was ignoring my emails and calls I thought I was screwed..... But you are outta luck if it has been 3 days, unless you can convince the dealer to help you out. I am sure I haven't helped you, but just thought I would let you know...

I'm afraid "as is" means just that in most states unless it's safty related and even then you may have to take him to court or at least threaten to. That's why it's important to take the car to a mechanic you trust 'before' you buy it. Talk to a lawyer in your state to find out if you have any recourse.

yup as mentioned before with every major purchase you have 3 days to return the item.....but if he is a dealer they are required to give you a 30 day warranty, its prob different in cali though?

Yeah here in Cali when you buy a car "as is" the dealer doesn't have to fix anything except safty items and there is no 30 day warraty on "as is" here or in most states.
