I live in NorCal near Sacramento and have been running catless for about a year. I've never been pulled over for my exhaust, and when I did get pulled over for other things, they did not even mention anything about my exhaust. I say just take them out but don't rip on it when a cops around

I was wondering the same thing, I don't know if I'd want to pay that much for only a small difference in sound and all. Thanks for the info lilkiller, that's kinda what I was wondering about...

Id say go catless and get a radar detector. Is it really possible to get the worst fine and consequences?Ive never heard of someone getting fined 12,000 and having there car repoed with more charges.I would gocatlessbecause around me theres tons of loud imports that are blown and Ive only seen one get pulled over everfor something completely different... There was a whole bunch of them going down toa show so the cop just had to pick one of them. Unless your being an absolute pric and your really breaking the law I dont think anyone will bother you. I shift at 1,500-2,000 rpmsand 2,500 at the most when in town.
ok thats not what he said. he said all the fines and fees can add up to $12,000. because come inspection time, in CA if you fail, they inspect the system, they find no cats, they either suspend your registration or repo the car. in either case youll be paying to fix the exhaust system, a reinspection fee of the entire vehicle at the DMV, a reinstatement fee for the registration, a registration renewal fee and the fine for driving a catless vehicle which i believe is a misdeameanor. all in all its not worth it, if you want a legal catted loud exhaust, go with the flowmaster 10 series.

Ok. Im in NJ and they are a-holes. They will fail you for any stupid little thing but they just slam a failed sticker on your windshield. You come back pay a small fee and your good to go. All I did was get a good sticker for $20 bucks. The guy was more interested in my car and didnt even give a crap. Isntead he nailed the ricer infront of me.
