Default T-lock and gear question

Hey all, I am looking to upgrade my rear end and want to make sure I am getting the right parts. Having a 95 manual, are these parts right?
OEM factory 28spline, 3.73, for a 7.5"...how well did the factory OEM t-locks hold up?? Are they good to get if you can find them cheat? Or would it not be worth it? Im not looking to spend awhole lot (i know, i know, you have to pay to play but...)

Thanks,
Matt

You have an open differential on your car so you will need a T-LOC in order to spin both wheels. If you are on a budget buy used 3 73s and a t-loc from americanmuscle.com. Your stock gearing is 2.73 I believe(please correct me if Im wrong) so upgrading t 3 73s would make a world of difference.

+1. It won't make any power but it will sure feel like it did and adding a T-lock was the best thing I did to my car. Now it can hook up rather than sit and spin. The t-lock should hold up well with regular street tires (not cheater slicks).

All the above is right. The T-Lok is an OK upgrade, but you'd be better off, if you plan on serriously moding your car, getting a stronger differential, such as one by Detroit, Auburn, or Eaton.

Im not looking to seriously mod my car, but i do want to upgrade the rear with some gears and a t-lock. Is a posi traction the same as a t-lock? better? worse? I found a pair of 3.37's with a posi traction unit for about $60 so im wondering if i should go for it or not...thanks for the help

yeah if you are just going for bolt-on power and not going to plan on hard clutch drops then the t-lok will be just fine. used gears are quite good as the ring and pinion are really stout but used T-loks are alittle expensive to rebuild but if you found both for $60 then i say go for it. the clutchpacks are about $100 for a rebuild on the T-lok and if you need the spyders that's more money but as a package deal it's worth it even if the t-lok needs rebuilt. you can get extra clutches and have them reverse mounted to get an extra 2 clutches in each side i believe for better clamping force. just make sure whoever installs the parts that they make sure the tolerances are held to a minimum with the T-lok. this eliminates unecessary drivetrain shock by reducing slop in the setup. if you plan on more power used gears are still fine but the detroit truetrac is the way to go.
