Default New guy, some questions

Hi everyone, my name's Jeff and I'm new around here. I dont have a Mustang yet, but I'm currently trying to sell my car (2000 SVT Contour) to buy a V6 Mustang. I'm looking for a 1999 or 2000 (has to be black [sm=smiley17.gif]). But anyways, can you guys tell me what kind of things I need to look for when buying a used '99 or '00 V6 Mustang? Where are the best places to look? I'd like to stay around $4000-6000 if possible. Also would REALLY prefer an automatic unless it's a V8. And like I said, it has to be black lol.

Also, what kind of mods can I do to a V6 Mustang, performance-wise? And what's a good exhaust to put on there? I'd like something loud, but not a fart can :P

Thanks!

Read the stickies at the top of the page, tons of info about mods.

Things to look for are the same as any car, fluid leaks, noises, suspension issues, etc. Good hint though, if the interior was well maintained, then odds are so was the rest of the car, not always true, but it is a good indicator.

what can be done to it, performance whise? the mustang is the most modded car in america...even the v6 ones, the possibilities are limitless...stroker kits, supercharger, turbo, nitrous, all the suspension upgrades, tons of body upgrades, motor swaps...its all game. let us know when u get it.

yeah....dont get the v6, unless you plan to mod it like crazy. Get a GT. it'll save ya money down the road. Although my v6 is a very good car. I've put it through a lot. You'd be surprised with all the wear and tear on the roads these days...

Anyways, here's a post on getting more HP to your v6 if you do get one:

I actually have been leaning towards a V8. My brother brough up a good point saying "Just wait a little while longer and get a V8 rather than getting a V6 that you KNOW you wont keep forever". So I kinda am hunting for a GT now but I'm keeping the V6 option open.

it all depends on how much money you want to spend. Insurence for a 6 is 1/2 of a v8, maybe even cheaper...gas is also cheaper on a 6 than an 8. Just two things to think about..

From what I've heard, the 6's and 8's don't have a big difference between them for gas mileage. I've got a 2000 Black V6, and I like it a lot. I do wish I had a V8, but I'm alright with a sixxer for now. Like jthorn said, look for the usual things you'd look for in a used car. I asked that question when I was looking for mine, and got the same answer.

Why do you want an automatic? Manual is so much more fun

and please explain how it's money saved down the road??? ever mod a 4.6??? they are crazy expensive to mod. the v6 is only slightly more expemnsive to mod than the 5.0 and gives betterhp/dollar than the 4.6 easily.

the V6 is a worthwhile platform to build on. it's cheap and can make a ton of power for not alot of money compared to the 4.6
