so if i were to jump in to this i would have to get around 290 with a great n/a cam better heads,a pistons.

I might just do this beside i am picking up a 1998 mustang Black 3.8 5-speed. the motor is no good and rear is missing gears.

only paying 500 for it.

N/A you can maybe see 265 or 270 hp at the wheels with a VERY good ground up build. (This means not self ported parts.)

My 4.2L in N/A trim made 247 rwhp...but it was low compression, and awaiting the blower set up. Higher compression and a better N/A cam would have done wonders for it.
How was the driveablity of the car when you were N/A? Was it really soft under 2k?

It wasn't very strong, but I did drive it all over.
