there should be a green light come on saying your o/d is off, maybe the bulb has blown? or u can try taking off the shifter and checking the wires are in place, put it into first and there is an Allen bolt on the side that holds it in place. does the car react when u push the button, like rev up a bit?

iv had the gauge cluster out but i dont kno if the bulbs blown. and i was thinking about taking the shifter handle off and checking that but i havent rilly gotten that far into it yet. its not necessarily that it revs up high when i push the button but wen i shift from like park to reverse or to drive the rpms go up or down but i think thats pretty normal.

go to a road. get the car to about 50-60 mph. press the button. if the car revs up then its working. or if its already off then the car will rev down. it has nothing to do with idel

Turning the o/d off eliminates 4th gear. It makes the tranny wait until higher rpms to shift, no matter how hard or soft you try to accelerate. It's for going up steep hills and things like that when you need to be in a higher rpm to shift.
