2000 Mustang, transmission screeching + a little bit of grind in the peddle.
Had a very odd experience today. Car was driving fine all morning (about 150km worth of driving mixed city and highway, nothing unusual, wasn't overly hard on it today either).
Anyways, I turned off my car, filled up my gas, and when I came back and started up the car, I got this awful screeching sound coming from the transmission (plus there was also a smell produced). Putting it into gear would make it louder with the clutch pressed in, but with it driving in gear the noise would go away/start to muffle out. Also there was a slight grind in the pedal when releasing it in gear - and it didn't feel like it gave the resistance it always has although that could just be me thinking it does when it doesn't. I got the car towed to my mechanic. I personally do not believe it is the Clutch as there is no slipping whatsoever.
Any idea? If its the clutch my mechanic said its going to be about $700 >>> OUCH.

Sounds like the throw-out bearing is bad. the fork could be bad as well and that could be causing the grinding/popping feeling in the clutch. You can replace just the TO bearing, and then all you need to do is pull the tranny.
