Rebuilt Alternator

Rebuilt Alternator
Has anyone ever used a victory lap kit to rebuild there alternator on the mustang? I think the FDA-04 kit would fit but I'm not positive and I'd much prefer $40 over $170 for a rebuilt one from auto store. Anyone know anything bout it?

I had mine rebuilt and upgraded/modified to compensate for the UDP, it seemed kinda easy, and kinda scary at the same time when I was watching

It comes with a regulator, bearings, brushes, and a few other things I'm not quite sure what they are but I've seen the victory lap kits used before and are actually considered higher quality then what rebuild companies use. I'm just unsure it it would fit my alternator. heres a pic of it
edit: hey ryan where'd u get your alternator rebuilt and how much did it cost?

update!! i got my alternator all fixed up and good, i had a idea to look for another vehicle that uses the same alt and i found a 95 mercury cougar at the u pull it yard and yank it's alt for like $19.35. I took the regulator off mine and found that the brushes broke so a swapped the brushes from the cougar alt onto mine and re assembled it. replaced my alternator fuse in the box under the hood, and now have a alternator with brushes that are at like 90%.
so recap for about $30 in gas and parts i have a fixed alt with a back up regulator and alternator body. yay junkyards! also they are all motorcraft parts so you know it's good. so for all your out there remember this as a cheap alternative to a $200 reman from autozone

Did you solder your regulator connections out the outside edge or just crimp them? You should solder them because that tends to be the most common failure point, unless you do like me and miss a gear and over rev and burn up the diodes on a 2-day old unit lol

haha nice. I actually didn't have to splice anything, it was all plug and play. On my alternator the brush assembly is screwed onto the regulator and uses the screws as the electrical connections to the regulator. so 4 screws to remove the regulator and brushes as a unit, then 2 more to remove the brush assembly from the regulator and put the "new" one on, re-assemble and it was good to go.

Hmmm, nice kit there.
Its also a great time to clean and paint the aluminum housing.
The 96' didnt need a new alt but while doing the splitport swap I took the time to take the alt off and paint the housing black. Looked great.
