So it would put the rpm's ou into the powerband. so running at the rpm's where we make the most power would =better performance wouldnt it

no, if you want to be in the powerband, just floor it and the ecu will down shift. it isnt smart to run o/d off b/c you just waste gas. this has NO effect on performance whatsoever, you just lose your top gear so you waste gas

What I want to know is why the 3.8L that are put in stangs are so WIMPY

dude not to burst your bubble here but I dont think the 3.8 is "wimpy" or "weak" whatsoever..

I have an oversized cam in my 3.8 and I have to tell you that I beat a stock GT stang with mine.

so my question to you is why do you feel this way about the 3.8?

furthermore its a lighter car and better on gas and insurance. so dawg the sixer why didn't you get a V8 holmes???? lol

I have a 2000 v6 vert with some minor mods, no forced air or cams heads and so and I use to spank my friends 92 Mitsu 3000gt so i dont see them being weak at all. I love my v6 and im plannin gon doing more engine work as soon as i get some more spendable cash. Also by the way running your car with overdrive off doesnt effect your gas mileage unless you are on the highway where you need the added gear. I actually drove a full tank of gas to see if it effected the mileage and there was no change in mileage per tank.

I can do a pretty good burnout with a v6

i can get into 4th gear at 45, to me, 45 is a city speed and something more along the lines of 60-70 is highway cruising. you will be in your powerband at 45 if you dont use overdrive, and this is a waste of gas

Because when I got the car I was 16, there was no way I could afford a V8, or afford insurance. I'm 19 now and have a steady flow of cash, with this post I was wondering if I should mod this engine, or buy a new car. I think I am going to keep this one and mod it.

I'm saying my 1995 3.8 is wimpy, I know the newer years got better in horsepower. babygurl, I invite you to come and drive my car, it can't even chirp off the line, that is how weak it is. This will hopefully change soon though.

Thanks for everybody's input.

I saw a V6 3.8 pull off over 400rwhp at a dyno a while back, so I definitely don't think our engines our weak. If you've got the money and passion (just as important), you could have a serious sleeper on your hands that will make stock GT and pre '94-'98 Cobra owners weep with envy. Of course they can do much fewer mods and be MUCH faster than a heavily modded V6.... but I've noticed something: Most of the V8s I see driving around town are not modded at all. A lot of the Sixers I see at least have exhaust work and cold air intake work done. However, when I see a heavily modded V8 GT, Cobra, or especially Saleen, I can't lie... I have to change my pants. I just can't wait until I have the money to turn my '04 into a GT killer. I can already keep up (sometimes beat, if they're auto) a lot of the '94-'98 GTs.

I guess I've just always been a Mustang lover, and I have equal respect for the V6 and the V8..... and even some of the 4 cylinder ones that had turbo.

Don't get discouraged by the power the car is making now. That 3.8 engine has A TON of potential. You just have to bring it out.
