Ugh had no time over the weekend to get the battery, Mom had to drop me off at class today like a wittle kid lol. It was awesome though, cause it allowed me to eat breakfast....IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I'm DEFINITELY getting the battery today though.

Great news, I was actually able to drive the car back home after i let the car sit for a good 4 minutes, and the drive home was about 2 minutes, then I let it sit for like 5 minutes. Thx for the info Ryan.

Your CCA rating might be low and of course on an older battery it weakens.

Mine last year for the 1996 Mustang was 550 Cold Cranking Amps and it started to crap out at about 20-26 degree's. One night it was -12 (The night my crappy Prestone premix slushed and froze) and it almost didnt start.

I wish it didnt start because thats when the head gasket popped.
Prestone never sent out the coolant test kit like they said there were.
Dont use Prestone if your area freezes.
I did know that the cold does things to the battery. Hmmm, Well this morning we got our first frost, so I am guessing around 32 degrees despite the wind. However, the night when my car wouldn't start was by far the colder nights so far. And your anti-freeze froze?! wtf is that bs... I actually have Prestone in my car right now ...So how would I test/know about "CCA" for my car or cars in General. I'm guessing thats the amount of amps from the battery it takes to crank the...uh..

i'm soaking up the knowledge guys, keep it coming lol.

Thanks again

When you have your battery tested at the parts store it will give a readout of CCA. Its sounding a lot like the battery is the culprit to me.

Yup, just stop by your local auto parts store and have them test it for ya, they will also put a top charge on it. They will tell you if you have a failing cell(s) and then try to sell you the most expensive bat they have!

Yeah, my Prestone premix slushed up in the radiator. It was suppose to be good till -42 but I guess they didnt mention that slushing could happen before then.

Anyways, of course slush isnt going to move through the system so it may as well been frozen solid.

I called them and they said that they would replace my engine if the coolant came back defective. They were going to send me a test kit to send back to them with a coolant sample but I never heard from them again after I gave them all of my info.

This was a fresh system, everything was dry-clean-new and ready for the new coolant that spring. The system was burped and filled correctly and gave me perfect performance all through the blazing hot summer months and into winter.

We had a freakishly cold spell though and had several Negative degree nights.
Whelp the night that it dropped to -12 was when I was at work so it blew on the way home.

I noticed that the heater didnt get warm just before getting on the onramp like it usually does. Well the heat never came on all the way home. It was a 17 mile drive, mostly freeway and I was concerned but it wasnt showing any sign of problems, that is till I got off the freeway and the car started running badly at the lower speeds.

When I got on my street she was bucking a little and I thought I saw a couple puffs of steam coming from the hood vent on the drivers side. I opened the hood but didnt see anything.

The next day I went out and there was watery milkshake in the oil and a rod was knocking.

Awesome.

Anyways, we bought an 01' Cobra donor car and I am doing the swap casually right now.

Its been almost a year and no word back from Prestone, even after several messages into the customer service line. They dont care, even though they have a guarantee for the premix if its the only thing in your system.

original battery on a 2001 with 89k and still running strong! I had the same problem as you about two weeks back after the car had been sitting and took the battery out and charged it on a bench with a variable volt marine battery charger, set it to 2volts and charged it for about 24 hours. haven't had a problem since, if you let them charge low and slow it seems to bring the life back into them, just a hint

This is why I run only coolant in my system, no water, no worries...kinda.

Last winter, when I was laid off from the rigs for a couple months, i worked as a mechanic and some guy brought his car in because he blew the freeze plugs out and cracked the engine. -8*C outside but still running water. He couldnt believe that the engine froze up like that.
