Well thanks guys the for advice, it turns out im not even getting the gt cats. Im just going to take off the pre cats. and install 2 high flows. I its the cheapest option and im going to stay legal, and have decent sound. total cost should be 130, for both high flows and installation, im going to sell the to precats to a dude for 70, so the end cost is 60 which is pretty cheap in my book haha

so no one really answered the question here... can you take a stock GT H pipe and pop it onto a 99-04 v6. if there are issues with the install then what are they and how can they be subsided?

Short answer... no it won't bolt up.
You need to cut and modify it to make it work. Just buy the right thing to start with, you'll spend less in the end.

an exhaust shop can mod anything gt exhaust take off to fit.

i replaced my stock exhaust, with o/r h mac h pipe 2 thrush welded mufflers pipes out the back, all 2.5 piping.

i lost a little torque in the low end, but gained high end, bottom line, for the sound difference it was definitely worth it.

i also hate cats, i took em off because mine were clogged, replacing them is a pita, and a lot of high flow cats are low quality.

also just because you have high flow cats on, does not mean that you're still legal, in va, altering exhaust is illegal, its all supposed to be factory.

so dont assume your safe just because you have cats on (which you should be). also some high flow cats do not help enough to get some people through emission testing here.

yeah i just ended up leaving as is. still loving the sound and higher end gain. actually got it inspected a few weeks ago and passed. But was told before hand that as long as the computer doesnt have a check engine light, they dont care about whats underneath, so still safe for now. And cant really justify spending money on high flows, till maybe i decide to trade up or something.
