Default 02 mustang 3.8 to 4.2 swap

Hey guys. I've tried searching but all I can find is for 94-98 mustangs. I've got a 02 3.8 and was wondering how much of a pain it would be to swap in a 4.2. What model year 4.2 would be best for my car? Would I need a computer and harness for the new motor? And I've got the windstar intake on my 3.8. Would it fit on the 4.2? Thanks for your help guys

if you can pull a motor, you can swap a 4.2L. It's straight forward.

You can use the Windstar upper. You'll want the oil pan from an 01-04 3.8L car (you have an '02, so that will be easy) and I would reuse the exhaust manifolds off the Mustang.

It's also good that you have an 02 because they are both internally balanced. Now by 4.2 do you mean a stock truck version or are you looking to build one or buy one from super six?

I was just looking into a straight truck motor out of the f-150. Which one would be more cost effective in your opinion?

if you can find a good condition engine out of the junk yard then that would be the cheapest.

not that ive heard. Ive got an 07 in mine I believe.

Pretty simple swap, oil pick up tube and oil pan get swapped. a couple sensors. motor mounts (atleast I changed mine to it). lower intake. good to go.

Cam is different, but if oyu got all that out, might as well have a good P&P work done to heads/lower intake to really help out that windstar, and get a cam for it.
