Default 95 Reinstall water pump, use permatex?

So, I had to get a new heater/ bypass pipe from the junk yard. This is the tube that runs up from the water pump and splits into two. One way to the bleeder valve and the other the heater core.

The original one was broken so I got one from a salvage yard. It's not broken and in pretty decent shape.

My question is, should I add permatex (the water pump liquid gasket) to the insertable area of the tube before putting it in? I want to ensure that it will not leak when it's all said and done.

The o-ring that came with the new pump is much thinner then the one on the new pipe. I got that permatex on the new one trying to make the old broken pipe work. It will seal but the permatex on it might not let the o-ring sit 100% right but when it's crammed into the pump, I don't think it'll be too much of a problem.

I'm gonna go back to napa tomorrow to see if the haves thinner o-ring as the one I got from them today is way way fat and won't allow me to even get the pipe in the hole.

Permatex is great for making gaskets, I've always used it with great results. That being said, it won't work for the hardline to the water pump. You must use an O ring to seal the pipe to the pump, then tighten up the bolt that holds the pipe to the pump. Don't try to over tighten the bolt, just nice and snug, no need to "torque" the bolt down. I hope this helps. GL

P.S I just did a water pump on my DD dodge dakota, make sure there isn't any burs or anything that could cause the O ring to fail early. On my Dakota, I just used a screw driver and a little sand paper to make sure where the O ring seats that it's nice and smooth.

lol. I JUST did it yesterday and its curing now. I did put some of the grey permatex above the oring on the hardline. I guess we will see what happens. I visited napa several times to get a better oring and they couldn't provide me anything. So I used the one that was caked with permatex from my first attempt to use the broken part. It seems to seal okay and I will add coolant today just to see where I go from here.
