Future plans :) read
Overall I agree with BabyGT that it really depends on a lot of things about your mom and her insurance. What I do know though is that even though the car will be listed under your mom's name on your insurance, you are still going to have to list yourself as an occasional driver to make it legal. Regardless of how good your mom's standing is, insurance is still going to rise a considerable amount when the insurance company knows a teen is going to be driving the car, especially a mustang! Mustangs just have that reputation.

Welcome to the forums. Take a little time to read the tech stickies at the top of the page, a lot of good info in there.
As far as your concerns of V6 vs V8 on insurance, the argument is mute because of the age of the car. If you get a 2003 Mustang GT and back, due to the age, the insurance cost between a V6 and GT will be minimal. Since this is your second car, and especially if you plan to keep it for a while, do some research and get what you really want. If the V6 can fulfill that, then get the V6, but if you want more performance, and better future resell/trade in value, then get the GT.

Thanks for the input . I do think a gt will fufill my "needs" haha. What it sounds like is the GT & V6 will cost the same . My first pick was a GT but thought it might be too pricey .
I would love to see some pics !!

The V6 vs GT debate only really is considerable on newer cars. Once cars get around 10 years old take all that stuff and throw it out the window. On 99-04 Mustangs the V6 does get ever so slightly better MPG, however only under all hwy driving, under normal mixed driving they average about the same. As far as insurance goes liability is identical between both the GT will only cost a fraction more for full coverage simply because the car holds better resell value.
As stated, do some research and then find something that will fit within what you're looking for. Also keep in mind, buy from private sellers if possible, you'll have better luck with negotiations.
Also, MODS DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT raise the value of a car. So if somebody is trying to sell you a car and charge $500, $1000, $1500 more because it has rims, an "intake" etc. it doesn't effect the value what so ever. Best thing to do is act like you don't like whatever it is and use it against the person.
Stay away from cars that have too many mods. Try to get one as close to factory as possible, excluding maybe decent choice rims. Once a car has signs of having too many mods it's likely been beat up and or owned by a younger person that may or may not of adequately taken care of the car.
Lastly, sign up for a carfax report. I think it's $20 and you can run up to 5 vins and get a full detail report. USE IT!!! Make sure the car has a clean title and if it doesn't be weary.

Thank you so much . So I guess it a GT!! And yeah I defiantly am going to look on how the car was taken care of. To me if I see it with a bunch of mods it more than Likely was drivin hard. Even tho I am going to end up putting mods into it :P ... I just really wish I could get a $ on what I were to pay. If its more than 200 idk if I can do it . I could but that's 2,400 a year. Lets hope under my moms name it will drop !
I can say from experience, I saved up and bought a 02 V6 Firebird two years ago as a Sophemore in High School. I sold it last month and bought a 2005 GT. I loved the Firebird, but the V6 just wasnt all that great even with some bolt ons. Wait as long as you need to and buy a GT. Make sure you also account for Tires, Brakes, Fluid Changes, Spark plugs, and any other maintance cost that you might encounter.

I know someone said before that both the GT and the V6 are made from the same body and therefore have the same parts. And the GT does have a higher re-sale value, but something to really consider is that you are still only 16 and you will put some kind of damage on that car. Would you rather put damage on a V6 or a GT, I'm not talking about value of fixing the car either. But just the overall value of the car to you the V6 obviously won't mean as much so it won't mean as much to ruin it a little.
I'm not saying to not get the GT but really weigh your options, don't make a decision on which car you should get based on what people are saying on here, really think about your plans in the future. Or just think about which option would truly be the better one for you. My advice would really be to lean in the less powered car, get all your bigs out modify learn how to work on it. That is exactly what some of the best car drivers out there did. I know that Tanner from Top Gear bought a 1991 Eagle Falcon, a coupe with 195HP just like the mustang V6 and he said that he modified that car, and that, that car was the one that taught him to be the driver he is today
