Default Replace 1998 shift bulb?

Hello, I tried searching everywhere for an answer, and all I get is results for 65's or 2004+ or other vehicles.
I am replacing the HVAC bulbs out with LEDs and since I will have the shifter bezel and center console pulled apart I wanted to go ahead and make the gear indicator bulb match everything else. As said, I cant find any answer on HOW to change the bulb out.
Does anyone know how to replace the automatic shifter/gear indicator bulb?

I have a 3.8L V6 1998 mustang.

There is just a light socket under the shifter. You have to pull the console to get to it. You can't change the color as the shifter has a lens.

Many thanks! -- Im hoping the lens is like the one behind the instrument cluster (Yellow bulb, blue lens, changed bulbs to white LEDs, got blue light )

So... how do I pull up the console? I have looked and looked for screws, bolts, etc and find nothing. I removed the cupholder, found a wire that leads to the shift but thats it. I cannot get this darn thing off!! and yes, i have removed the trim that houses the cig lighter outlet.

The shifter surround pops up, it's just clipped in place, you might have to unbolt shifter to get at bulb if you have larger hands

This is from memory, so I might have missed a step, but it should be close enough:

To pull the console, ****** out the aforementioned trim bezel. Under there at the bottom of the dash stack you will find 2 torx screws, pull those. Open the center console storage compartment, pop out the two rubber plugs at the front of the tray, there are two Phillips screws under them, remove those and then lift out the storage bin. Under that there are two more torx screws. Lift the e-brake all the way up. The grab the real of the console and lift towards the dash. You should be able to wiggle it out from there.

He doesn't need to take the entire console out to get to the bulb in the shifter.

"Have to". No, but depending on dexterity and hand size, it may be easier for him then wrestling with the shifter and trying not to mess up the plastic slide/guard. He asked how to get the console up, so I answered.

Im pretty sure the slide guard is missing anyway lol. There is a lot of work I need to do on the car, just lack the know-how and terminology. Thank you for all the help, Ill go out and fiddle with it some more and report back when possible.

Just a quick update, I had to pull up the center console, there was just no way to access the torx screws without doing it, and the bulb itself was in the deepest part of the shifter area so it took quite a bit of bending of hands and tools to pry the sucker out and replace the bulb. Regardless, here is the result. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...3/DSC00785.jpg
