so you fall out of the powerband, these engines can handel more than 6k rpm, so make them shift there, hense, you start in first, go to second, and so on, now ill brb about the O/D thing

where ever your car shifts into 2nd while under wide open throttle. it should be around 4800rpm's at about 4600-4800rpms while accelerating in 1st pull the shifter down into second from drive and leave it there till you wind 2nd out to about 5000 then upshift it back into drive
it has no affect on gas. it should only be used for racing anyways. normal driving just let the tranny shift itself

so when do you do the d-2-d thingy, at what speed is it good to go into the 2, does it waste gas?

i have line pressure tested these trannies with the O/D on and off and there was no difference in line pressure whatsoever. this urban legend has been floating around for a few years and is not true. EECIV and V are "learning" or adaptive trannies. they will learn to shift according to your driving style. softer if you drive slower and lower in thr rpm's and faster and higher in the revs if you drive agressive. my 98 shifted soft and about 4200rpm when we first got it. after about 5-6 months the car shifted at 5200 or right at redline.
just try the D-2-D shift instead of arguing with me over it for god sake you will see i am right

they won't even rev to 6000 with a stock computer and if they did you would be wasting your time above 5000rpm's anyways. these engines reach peak HP at 4800-5100
