i disagree with Trill and you on this one... unless you are doing something REALLY CRAZY you may not need an 8.8... i'm putting 440 ft/lbs through my 7.5 with a track-lok and drag radials...

I agree with Trill, you DEFINITELY want a bigger rear end to hold up to the power going to the rear wheels.

i think that if you have a constant power on the 7.5 you might break it, i mean, this would be like running your nitrous constantly, that would hurt the car definitly

I'd set the bucks aside until you've got enough for the SC. Otherwise it'll hit the market about the time you've spent all your money, it's Murphy's law But if you HAVE to spend it now, +1 on screaminyellin6 suggestions.
And Gorex, where the heck are those pics?

even though you do have the most experience with this car here probably, i am going to have to disagree with you here

What kills the rear is the SHOCK that a manual tranny makes when you drop the clutch... with and automatic you preload the drive line when you power brake... so there is not quite as heavy a shock....
The only one's I've known that have broken their 7.5 is Powerhouse411.. they set their Nitrous to come on at part throttle (125HP shot or was it 150!) and then DUMPING the clutch at like 5500 RPM!! On sticky tires!!!
I'm launching at 1800 RPM and spraying very early like just above 2000 RPM... so I'm probably pushing 460 ft/lbs...
Breaking the 7.5 may leave you stranded but it usually doesn't take anything else out...
If you have a manual, plan on running sticky tires (your street tires will be your weakest link) and you can drop the clutch at 5000 RPM (i know I can't) then I would perhaps upgrade to the 8.8... wouldn't hurt... but then again it's going to set you back $$$$...
