Default Repairing paint nicks

As anticipated, I have experienced the proverbial "first scratch". It's a tiny nick, you can feel it with your finger, and I believe it digs all the way through the clearcoat and paint (so tiny...like 3mm length). Should I dab on some clearcoat touchup, or is there, like, some type of nick filler pen out there?

If there's an actual ding, you can try paintless dent repair to start out with. Depending on where the ding is, they do wonders and will often come right to your driveway. Ask your dealership who they use.... lottsa new cars get dinged up and you'd never know it.

As far as touching up the paint, I've had decent luck with http://www.paintscratch.com/ - They have paint touch-up pens plus clearcoat pens. They matched up my paint to the year and color of my ride... redfire... With some patience and a steady handy they do a nice job.

If it is a "nick" in the paint, build up the touch up paint. A dab at a time, let it dry and fill the nick. Once the filled area is higher then the original painted surface, take a super high number sandpaper and LIGHTLY rub off the touch up until it is close to the level of the original paint. This will probably require some more paint and another session with the sandpaper. Then use a mild compound (Meguiars number 5 is a good one), to restore gloss to the paint.

Will you ever get the nick to disappear? NO, but it can be pretty much eliminated. Often, this method makes it difficult to get the color to stay close to the factory color.

BTW, this is NOT for the feint of heart. I did a nick on my 05 and it came out great.

Dude, there are not words to express how much that sucks. I leave in total fear of the day some moron does it to mine. Knock on wood for me. Good luck on the repair.
