Default HP Question

How come all these little foreign cars with 2.5's and3.0's are all coming out with these cars that have much more h/p than our stangs? Im embaressed to tell people how much hp is in my car...210? Now thats pretty pathetic. Is the stang faster than these cars even though we have less hp? Why is it a 4.0 with such little hp? If there is a car with 250hp but only a 3.0 is the stang still faster? Thanks for whatever answers u can give to make me feel a little better.

look at the PEAK TORQUE RPM. in a street car, thats the seat of the pants number that beats everything else. If yours pulls harder at a grand less than the pipey ricer motor, yours will still feel more powerful in everyday driving. topend hp numbers dont mean nearly as much as bottom end torque in non-race applications where the car spends 99.9% of its useage.

Think I'd trade my 300hp/320ft-lb@4500 gt motor for a 225hp/400ft-lb at 2500 anyday- even with a 4500 revlimiter. topend just gets you in trouble/makes noise/breaks things, but man IT IS STILL FUN! I dunno what happened last week, oily road or what, but spun (not barked) second for 2-3 seconds one day- yeee-hah! luckily no police within earshot...more bottom end torque would still plant you in the seat harder with much less noise.

so the 4.0 stangs would have more bottom end torque than the smaller ricer cars with more hp? Thanks

Because import v6's like the Altima 3.5 (or 350z, G35...all use the same engine), Accord v6, Eclipse v6 etc...they make more stock hp with smaller engines because they are tuned to all heck. The Mustang 4.0 puts out such low hp stock because it's been de-tuned, for multiple reasons. For just 700-800$ you can pull 30-40 whp from the Mustang, and with more $ in, more then that just staying n/a. This car wasn't meant to stay stock. The 4.0 is a great engine, and lightyears ahead of the old 3.8.

Besides, if you feel bad at 210hp, just keep telling yourself Hyundai's v6 only makes 171 hp

yes, torque wins races, horsepower sells cars.
and for those who don't race...

You feel torque... you talk about horsepower... LOL! ( I stole that one from Scott at MRT... LOL)
