Default catalytic converters

Sorry I am not a big car buff but what is the catalytic converters function? My buddy gutted his converters(on a 2000-2004 cobra) and he told me if I did the same thing my car would be extreamly loud I live in oklahoma and we don't have to pass emmisions so that is not a problem but what are the down falls to doing it? Would my car be in any danger?

I don't think it should do any damage to your car, but I think I remember reading that you'll trip an idiot light if you remove or otherwise by pass them. Not for certain on that though.

Cats convert harmful emissions in to less harmful emissions. If you gut them your exhaust will STINK BAD!!!!!!!!! and you will be damaging the enviroment lol

if you do it you will need a tuner to turn your rear o2 sensors off.

I gutted the cats on my 300zx. It was a big mistake, black smoke and smelt bad all the time. (It didn't before) Dynoed it after, didn't make one bit of difference.

Not to mention, you will decrease backpressure which could hurt performance and MPG. Since you have a v6 it could end up sounding like rice.
