THey are comparing it to jap v6s. Of course it wont last as long as a camry v6 but i can see these motors lasting at least 200k.
What is it with japanese engines anyway? Somehow these guys are able to take a tiny engine and give it monstrous horsepower. Have you seen the v6 engine for the nissan maxima? 3.5L v6 and it's pumping 265 horsepower!! That's more than the 4.6 v8s in the 99-04 GT models! I believe the new honda civic SI has a 1.8L 4 cylinder engine at 190 HP too. Crazy.

Change the oil & filter religiously, meet minimum maintenance schedule requirements and I see no reason why this engine won't give anyone 200k miles plus. Oh.... I do drive relatively conservatively.... but with a Mustang, I'm learning not to from time to time. [8D]

i have the 3.8, and i am not sure what it was rated by C+D, but it is an old motor that has had all the kinks worked out and still runs great. I have had no problems with my car besides the normal wear and tear of brakes, clutches, tires, etc. I would not worry, the 4.0 will be runnin for a long time.

The 4.0L motor has seen use in Rangers and Explorers for years, and Explorers are everywhere!!!! Sure, when the 4.0 first came out, it had some issues, but its a seasoned platform now.
That is good news. Thanks everyone for responding. I actually feel better now. And I will not longer look at Car and Driver magezine lol

I've noticed you're always second guessing the V6 mustang. Don't let magazines determine how you feel about yourself and your posessions. Our cars are hot!

I had a Pinto (72) and never had any trouble with it other than two crashes and a timing belt.

I've read lots of reviews on the sixxer before I bought one. Most rated it average in the reliability category. Nothing new though, the Mustang is doomed to be ranked bad in reliability. I guess it's due to Ford's previous track records with the barrage of bad mechanical cars they made in the 60s 70s and 80s (Pinto anybody?)

You know what Spartan, I really am. It is not intentional though. I wanted a mustang so badly and that is what I have and I happy with my mustang. I love it. I am getting duals put on it soon and know I will love it more. I guess once I bought I thought to myself, it is REALLY fast. Then I searched google and read about a lot of people downing the v6. Saying that only girls would buy a v6. Well, I am a girl and I take offense to that! So I bought a book about mustangs. And our v6 I feel, from what I read, has a bad reputation because of the older v6 mustangs. All I know is that when I floor it, my head goes back lol. As far as second guessing. You are right. But I do not second guess owning it. I just come here sometimes for reassurance. Should I need it? No, I love my mustang. I don't really know hot to explain it[&o]

Actually i do belive that the new civic si is like 199.9999999999 hp lol...cuz honda was bummed they couldnt get it to a flat 200. However honda and most other jap cars depend on super high revs to get that power. The civic si redline is like 8,000 and u can push them to about 8,300 b4 the limiter kicks in. Not to mention tho the new si has like 130 ft lbs of tourque.....[sm=violin.gif] they may be fast but from a dig our cars would take them

Y' know what, tho? A small engine still works harder and is under more stress than a motor with more cid no matter the hp or torque that they're able to wring out of it. I just dumped a 98 Camry 4 cylinder and will never again have another car that big with an engine that small. That's why I'm now the proud owner of a 2006 Mustang Pony Edition in Performance White with Sapphire Blue Rousch Racing stripes. Soon as I get a pic, I'll include it as a siggy.

202k miles in our 2001 ford explorer 4.0 (sohc just like ours). Only repairs ive ever done on the car is the drivers side door actuator, rear trunk actuator, and a radiator (did all of them after 190k)
