Keeping My V6 / Plan to Supercharge it
First timer, I joined because I have read a lot of posts about V6ers upgrading to Gt. I am keeping my V6 and I am currently putting on JBA true duals , next comes headers and if Santa is good to me , Paxton Supercharger. I have two questions, I saw the Paxton selling for $4,500 is that a good price ? and the retailer recommends upgrading to 8.8" rear end. He says the V6 rear end can't handle the torque. Is this true ?

RE: Keeping My V6 / Plan to Supercharge it
Scrming, Jimp and I have been abusing the 7.5 with 360+ RWTQ on these cars for over a year with no issue. That is more TQ than a basic SC will give you unless you are running 13psi! I have 371RWTQ on a mustang dyno (add 10% to get a dyno jet number, add another 12-15% to get a flywheel prediction) and mine is holding up ok. There are ways to make the 7.5 stronger. As for the cost of the paxton, you can get a Vortech for less, and the PC is less. The turbo non IC unit is 4000. I think 4.5k is a tad high.

RE: Keeping My V6 / Plan to Supercharge it
I plan to be conservative and run no more than 7 to 8 psi. My v6 is a daily driver but I want the car to have ample power. The retailer told me that I could use the 7.5" until it broke, that made me nervous. How can I make the 7.5" stronger ?

Well, first off with that much power on tap, you'll want a limited slip differential back there. My pick is the Detroit Truetrac, but the Ford one isn't bad and is significantly less $ The Truetrac is stronger tho'
Also consider changing the gear ratio at the same time if you choose to in order to reduce labor costs
A rearend girdle such as the one from TA performance has supports for the bearing caps and can help beef up the 7.5"
I'm with you, I bought my V6 intentionally with the plan to supercharge it when kits became available. I just received a call, and my Explorer Express X-Charger is on it's way
