Self made targa top
Hey everyone, i have been toying with the idea of getting a targa top. The thing is that they are atleast $1800, I was thinking that all you really are paying for is the new top and install. I am guessing it is not hard to do. Really all you have to do is move some of the wiring to the light and cut. The only tricky part is you have to fabricate some type mechinism to latch the top down and some weather stripping for water. Any idea's from you guys and what you all think. BTW, this will not be done until atleast until we have another ca,lol. Wife would kill me if she saw me cutting off the roof of the car.
In the 90's they came out with do it yourself kits to turn your mini-truck into a convertible. They were cheap but cool...until your top flies off while going down the interstate and you get to watch it slide and bounce across the pavement until it's a worthless hunk of metal.
My advise. Do the professional kit.

well i will be doing this once i get another car. My current car will be my toy, So this project will not be rushed and i am going to make sure its done right. If i dont feel that its not fitting right, i just wont drive around with it on, this will probably be a summer vehicle.
Not yet, i just dont see why a kit should cost upwards of 2grand, and thats without install!! As long as you get straight cuts you will be fine. All i would have to do is come up with some type of latch system, which i dont think will be too hard. Weld in some subframe connectors and i will be fine when it comes to chassis strength.
