Default The Old Flyby...

Well, I was finally the victim of the infamous ricer flyby. We had driven all the way from TorC NM to Dallas and were just about home when this guy in something that looked like a BMW, although I can't be sure (so many of the new cars look just alike) dose this flyby. I though, Hay, a ricer flyby, wow, my first one. [sm=smiley1.gif] So I get on it and reel this guy in , slowing as I come even with him. He kind of caught me napping and nailed it before I could get back on the gas, so he got about a length on me and was slowly pulling away. Of course, the Spouse is kind of tired so she informs me of the error of my ways, but what the hell, I keep my foot in it for a bit longer but he's got the momentum and slowly continues to pull further away, now maybe two lengths. I shut down about then since I'm coming up on my turn and let him fly off into the night. At the time I was running the 87 octane VMP tune but the car was loaded down with stuff, full trunk, back seat and even the convertible top storage bin was full of stuff, so I actually thought she did fairly well considering all this extra weight.

After I turned off, I suddenly remembered another kind of similar encounter back in the '70s, dajaview. I was moving then too, and had my '69 Roadrunner, yellow of course, loaded down when this guy in a hemi Cuda wants to have a go. This time it was from a standing start and he gave me the launch then disappeared in a cloud of burned rubber. Unfortunately, between all the extra weight and the 14-inch wide rear tires, the clutch gave up the ghost so I had to baby it for the rest of my trip then replace it when I arrived. Must be some karma thing I have about loaded down cars and midnight encounters.

The good news is I didn't break this time, so I figure I'll win the next one and this time I'll be ready. Let's see, that should be sometime in the 2030s...Ok, I'll make a note. [sm=smiley4.gif]
