Default new guy w/question

Hi guys,

I've been reading this forum for about a month now, every since I got my '07 stang 4.0.

I am gonna post some pics of it soon.

Basically I'm just getting interested in upgrading the performance aspect of the car mildly. The first thing I did when I got it was to overhaul the Audio system. (i'm a music teacher, lol)
I put a in-dash DVD/TV/MP3/CD player with a back up camera that come on when you put it in reverse, along with amps and subs in the truck, about 3 grand when it was all said and done. I also installed a roush hood scoop last week.

Here's my first question:
I installed a single Flowmaster AT and changed the oil for the first time last nite. I put a K&N air filter in the car. I went to the K&N website and was looking at the horsepower claims. They claim that the filter itself is good for 1-4 hp. How much hp do you guys think i gained by adding the muffler and filter, if any?

I also noticed the the CAI Systems at the K&N site claimed 7hp gains on 4.0 mustangs with no other mods such as a tune. I am gonna get a CAI/Tune eventually, but not yet.

Thanks for any input!
jd

I wouldn't go with the K&N CAI if you want more hp. C&L has better hp increase I think.

yeah, C&L or products from mustang specialty companies (steeda, etc) if you're looking for decent gains.

the muffler, probly around 5-8hp... the filter, not much... go with the c&l intake, a retune, and a muffler

I think the consensus on the muffler has been that you'd be lucky to realize a 2 hp gain at the wheels. It's not a performance mod as much as a sound preference. The K&N filter won't buy you much of anything either... not to mention everything you'll read from people on here is to stay away from them. If you're looking for a boost, go with a CAI and a tune. Or just a tune. I've read less than favorable results from just a CAI though... at least one that doesn't include a tuned-MAF with it. Screws up the air to fuel mixture.
