I totally understand what shift points are. My question was what does a tune do for a manual 5 speed car like yours? What differences did you feel after the tune, etc.? What benefits does a tune give a manual trans car?

Sorry, Misunderstood the question. A tune will eliminate throttle lag, increase response and alter engine air fuel tables for all 4.0's when coupled with matched and tuned cold air intake will give 25-30 HP increase and no throttle lag. The tune stops there on a manual. The rest of the car's performance with a manual trans. is up to you and how you shift.

I installed suspension mods to handle hook-up, and torque limiters to make the manual shift predictably at higher rpms. especially with higher torque and HP numbers. A tune will primarily change the way the engine responds. Transmissions are secondary issues. and since autos on the s197 are computer controlled the tuner will take those options into account. IMO A well tuned XCAL2 auto can beat any manual unless you are veeerrryyy good at shifting. . I just happen to love that shifting stuff....Heel& toe...

Thanks billybix76, I guess its time for a tune. I hate the off throttle lag mine has, not much but you can tell it.

did i honestly gain 25-30hp by having this done? i need to find me a dyno down here in san diego, i would love to see how much my car is putting down now. i never did a baseline, never could afford doing one at the time.

Not for everybody! If you are only looking for HP then you can get that, some are some aren't! Simply now most of these 4.0 @ the Rears are like 160-175. Most can expect with a tune and CAI both to get to the 180-185 mark, wiht no other mods. But in saying that the fastest N/A 4.0 in the 1/4 miile so far had only 193 RWHP.....HP isn't everything. TQ IMO is more imporant with these cars.

i know torque is what get's the car going, but the parts only talk about HP, never really tells you how much torque was added. i guess i'll have to do a dyno to figure where i'm at.

i would really like to hit 200HP and see where that takes me in torque levels.

200 isn't impossible, I'm at 205 with a conservative 89 dyno tune but I'm TQ'ing at 247. THere is quite a few that get up to that total as well. 190 is usually a stong car, but if you can get a dyno tune which is just great money spent.

the guy at brenspeed said the tune given is with max hp and torque. how does the dyno tune differ?
