Changed back to 87 tune on x-cal
After driving around for a year on 91 Octane tune, I decided to downgrade to 87 to save money on gas (daily commuter). Car seems to run smoother on 87 and I am able to switch gears at lower RPM range without decrease in performance. Someone mentioned a 3hp/3.5tq difference between the tunes and that maybe true since I always advanced timing on all my previous cars but I truely can't feel the difference. In fact, I feel that 87 tune provides better performance. I haven't tried the 89 tune yet but I guess it will not make much difference. For now I'll stick to 87 tune.
Do you guys really feel the difference between tunes? I know that advanced timing also improved MPG but with 87 my car gets slightly better MPG on freeway. What gives?

Im running 87 from VMPTuning, perfect shift/throttle lag reduction. The tune works well, I dont see a reason(myself) to upgrade unless 91 goes down in price $3.00+ a gallon! Being 17, money doesnt exactly flow in so, 87 is sufficient for me.

In regular driving I cant tell the differance between 87 performance and 93 performance either BUT in all out driving,BIG DIFFERANCE. In all out driving, first gear is all wheel spin(I have an automatic) and it chirps rubber hitting second. With 87 perf., about half of first is wheel spin and no chirp. With 87 mileage tune I can only get about 4 feet of rubber but mileage is great(406 miles on 13.953 gals).Stock tune is no wheel spin and mileage is off by 4.6 mpg, plus that terrible LAG.Whats nice is that in all Xcal tunes, regular driving the car is as easy as stock, until you get on it. Great fun!! Heres something, in 87 mileage tuneengine felt rough at 75 or 80 mph,I put in 89 octane and car felt great and mileage went upto whats quoted above, 29.1 mpg.
