i went to a car show at ray viles ford in clinton tn
talked to a sales man about a new f150 never gave him my name or anything when i got home i had a message saying he found a truck i might like ' my bus # is my only phone # and its not in my name. i figure he ran my plate got my name and then did a credit check and we call them stealerships they are outright CROOKS

In California it's a little more difficult to get personal information from a plate now. The law was changed after a nutcase got young actress Rebecca Shaeffer's home address from DMV via her car plate, went to her home, and killed her.

Add: Apparently there is also Federal legislation protecting privacy in this kind of situation.

I'm sorry but this has to be the most moronic question ever. if you're new then I apologize. but did you ever hear of identity theft? its just an easy check and they can have all your information, go directly to your address and swipe your car right under your nose. especially if you have heavy modifications inside your car.

Same here.....I've posted my plates many times. Just so they know.....my insurance is through Smith & Wesson.
