Default header problem

we just finished the install of the jba shorty headers on my friends v6. when we started it we didnt hear any leaks or any bad sounds but after the headers heated up from the car being on it started to smoke. we did however use a real lot of wd-40 during the installation process. could this just be it burning off or is it something more serious?

You guess exactlly right. It's just buring off all the grease and oils that are on the headers. It will go away after driving it for a while.

The WD40 will take a bit to burn off. Be sure to retighten the bolts when it cools down and check them again in a few days.

I just instalelled the FRPP kit with those cheapo ebay shorty headers. Love the FRPP kit, but the headers not so sure. Help me to compare them to the JBA if you don't mind. How did the JBA's compare to these issues?
[ul][*]I installed them using the factory studs but had to drill out the header flange mounting holes to get them to seat to the head.[*]The EGR tube was off a couple of inches and I had to bend it into a proper alignment to get it to thread up.[*]The supplied gaskets need to go under the dip stick, engine hooks and coil pack bracket. I thought about just triming them down but decided to just use them as designed. Left off the hooks.[*]The down pipe mounting flange is slotted and you connect to the Y, X pipe using bolts. [/ul]Sounds great, haven't driven it yet as still have one more project to complete.

Were the headers painted? I know back when me and my buddies were building our first rods that the paint they used on new headers would heat up and smoke before the paint fell off.

Yep, mine did the same thing. Give it a day, it'll go away.
