Default FLOWMASTER DELTA 40 series single....

I am researching a new muffler for my V-6 convertible. I thought I wanted to do a GT take-off (like I had on my 05 vert)and still might. This afternoon, I stopped by a local muffler shop that does FLOWMASTER (the AMERICAN THUNDER is a contender also).

The shop offered me a FLOWMASTER DELTA 40 muffler installed in place of the OEM muffler, NO OTHER MODS (per my instructions). I have heard such a muffler on YOU TUBE and it sounds great. The muffler appears to beabout the same as the AMERICAN THUNDER, in size and shape. Any thoughts on this as a mild improvement to the sound of the V-6.

I have to please my wife, as she drives the car most of the time AND it's a CONVERTIBLE so I don't want to be too noisy and annoying to the interior.

Your comments appreciated. THANKS

Well the AT axle back is missing an important hanger and people have complained about rattling. Also they rust one within a year. You probably would be better off with a Bassani or Magnaflow axle back.

Thanks for the recommendations. The DELTA 40 would be all stainless steel and the installation would be completely custom, as the muffler he showed me had NO hangers on it. I have read about the change in the hangers for the 08's, but the muffler guy seemed unconcerned about that, as the muffler would be fabricated to fit the application.

I have the Flowmaster AT. Here is my review:

Pros: Sound = 10! Love it and get lots of compliments on it with a lot thinking it's a V8 (ones who don't know mustangs very well)

Cons: Quality = 3 or 4. Like Wishbone said, it rusts. I've had mine for I think 7 months and it's got surface rust on it and the black paint is pealing off already. My experience is the hangers are fine, it the cheap clamp that comes with it. I've tightened it as tight as I can by hand and it still wiggles therefore squeeks! I hate that!!!! [:@] It makes my almost brand new car sound like crap.

One solution I've thought of is sandblasting it and then powdercoating it. Then reinstalling it with a different high quality clamp. That would fix the quality issues I've described. But why I should have to do that to a fairly new aftermarket product that I bought brand new is beyond me. I've been checking out duals so I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.

I located a GT TAKE-OFF muffler at a VERY reasonable price. The GT TAKE-OFF worked well on my 05, why try to reinvent the wheel. I heard and read enough comments about mufflers being too loud and droning. I was pleased with my TAKE-OFF on my 05, I expect the same from the new muffler.

Thanks again for the opinions and feedback. Now, if I could get my photo to work and replace the old signature photo.
