Default X pipe vs Y pipe

So I've been thinking about exhuast for a bit now and I just made the comitment to duals by buying a pair of Flowmaster American Thunder mufflers for $130 shipped on ebay .

I'm wondering about which dual exhaust setup would be better for me . I've heard the difference and I think the H pipe sounds a tad better and deeper , while X sounds kinda exotic but I'm wondering about other factors.

-price
-difficulty of install
-horsepower gains
-gas milage difference

X pipe is the best for performance gains.
H pipe gives a bit deeper and throatier rumble.
I dont think the install is much different between them.
Stay away from Y pipes, not even true duals.
And I'm not sure if there's really a big gas mileage difference.

Hope this helped

why X for performance gains , articles I've just read says H for low end torque , X for high end HP

I've just read that X is best over all for performance. Also that with an H you lose high end torque.

Keep in mind that Ford uses the X pipe set up in their V6 exhaust kits.

i'm in the same boat...

i want to get the best sound possible and i'm not too worried about the 2-3 HP loss in using an H pipe vs. an x pipe (if that's the case, correct me if that's wrong)
but where in the world can i get an H-pipe to fit the 05+ v6???
i've looked everywhere......a gt takeoff would be fine if i could find one

and yes, ford does use the x-pipe in their kit, b/c its a performance kit and it will help gain a couple HP over an H, but i also think the x-pipe is easier to manufacture, so that may have some to do with it

also, i have a Y pipe w/ duals now... dont go that route

JBA Stainless Steel H Pipe and Midpipes - 05 + V6

http://www.v6mustangstuff.com/05V6Exhaust.htm 7th one down

It comes with the H pipe and midpipes. All you need is mufflers/hangars.

thanks. yeah i saw those as i was looking, but i already have dual mid-pipes and would prefer to not have to purchase another set of them if i can... for price and convenience haha

is there anywhere i can just buy a takeoff H-pipe or do you think it would be easier to have a muffler shop just fabricate one for me?
