Default Mileage tune

I was wondering for me to get a tuner and use it for a mileage tune, do i also need the cai for the mileage tune to be functional? And if i do, which Cai and Tuner combo tend to get the best mpg? Any help would be great, thanks.

Most places require the CAI and Tune together. At least the decent ones do. I think vmptuning has a good mileage tune.

I would recommend a C&L CAI / XCal3 from Bamachips or Brenspeed and you will have to contact them regarding the mileage tunes they have available.

I don't think a CAI is needed for an MPG tune. The whole point of it is economy not power.

Any idea of how much the mileage tune will make a difference? 2-5 miles per gallon better? And you think the tune with out the CAI would do fine then?

I would say AT MOST 5 but I have never used a milage tune. I honestly dont think many people on this forums have used it. I hear that the torque tune seems to give people better gas milage but I think it was the 91 torque tune so you would be paying more for the premium gas.

From what I read on bamachips website.
12. Can you write a Mileage tune for my application?
No, mileage tunes are nothing more then smoke and mirrors. The best tune to use for mileage is a 87 performance tune because it is the tune with the least amount of changes from the stock tune.

Some other websites clams only 1 to 2 mpg, depends on how you drive.

Just installed the SCT X3 fuel economy tune on my Mustang this morning. Will let you know how my commute mileage improves... or doesnt. I was running the 91 octane Demolet custom performance tune before.
Been very pleased with my CAI and tune combo from Tunable Induction.

Ran through 11 gallons of gas with the CAI and the SCT fuel economy tune, I averaged 28mpg. Bone stock my car was averaging 27mpg.
(yawn)
My commute is 50% freeway @ 80mph, 45% highway @ 60mph & 5% city.
I did briefly hit 125mph yesterday though, that's not a regular occurrence, probably didn’t help the fuel economy.
I think the tune only makes a difference in town. So not much help in my situation.

if going with bama tunes, best overall mpg i got was from my 91 torq. as for cost per mile, 87 perf might be the pick. i still think however that the mpg gained with the torq is enough to offset the difference at the pump between 91 & 87. i've decided to stick to 91 all the time alternating between torq and race tunes.
