Compressing Springs?

Compressing Springs?
When you get new springs, I heard you need to compress them first. Does compressing them have to do with how much it lowers the car...b/c I've been hearing that the Pro-kit lowers your car 1.5 Rear and 1.3 Front. I'm seeing on websites that it lowers it about 3/4 all the way around. Some just an inch from some websites...
What's going on? I dont want rubbing from the sportlines and I don't want too much space from the wheel and the body. I will be getting 18's if that makes a difference.
I'M EXTREMELY CONFUSED!

The compresser is only used to install the springs.
Depending on what tires you get for your 18s, you shouldnt have as much space left in the wheel wells as you do now.
A 255 in front and 285 in the rear should fill up nicely and give your wheels a nice "beefy" look to them.
