Default oem cats vs. aftermarket cats

i want to get a dual exhaust for my v6 mustang. i want the pypes shorty headers and the pypes street pro dual exhaust system. but i'm not sure about getting new catalytic convertersor or using the originals. i heard that the oem cats were actually pretty good high flow cats and i don't want to have to replace parts that don't need to be replaced. can yall help me out or give me some suggestions to which high flow cats i can use. thanx

Sounds like a plan to me. I would just keep the stock cats if I were you. I not sure about the Pypes stuff, is it a true dual system or not, but I would go to a true dual if it isnt. I would get you some Headers off of Ebay, they work just as well as JBA and will save you a ton. I have them, and installed them myself and they worked and still work great. They can save you enough to get the professionally installed, if you would like that instead

Actually the stock heads are pretty good themselves....It'd be nice to hear a 634 with some High-Flow Cats, I say go for it!

VMP tuning did some dyno runs on the stock cats, and they flowed very well for N/A applications. Stick with the stock cats and piping.

FWIW, the stock manifolds are designed quite well and are close to shorty headers already. But if you wanna dress up under head, then you'd probably want to put on pretty shorties.

I would recomend the shorties, if for nothing else for the sound. I added quite a bit of tone to mine and a good deep rumble. I debated on going longtubes for a while, but I have heard that they dont benefit much unless you FI. Also the I have heard a the 4.0s with Highflows and no cats sound awful and here is you a vid to help enforce that. No matter what some say, yes shorties and true duals do give you horses under the hood cause I can take stock 6ers to the cleaners

So Shorties and the Pypes Catback sounds like a good plan to me

dont do shorties, compared to stock there about the same, either go with the long tubes or stick with stock.
