Default Idle Problems

I know there are a lot of threads already about idle problems throughout the board. They all seem to be different than my problem or just can't find them. I have a 2006 V6 manual transmission and it has 24K miles on it. I don't beat it up and take good care of it, my father owns a car lot so I learned early to appreciate my cars. So, here's the problem in it's various occurrences:

1. Start it up and it will rev up to 1500-2000 RPM. This will continue until I push the clutch in the whole way and it goes down to normal idle, 700 I think but not sure. Sometimes that will stop the problem but sometimes it continues to rev high even after I push in the clutch repeatedly.

2. It will also do the same thing but as I'm coasting in neutral to a light or stop sign. Again, I push in the clutch and it may or may not stop the problem for the rest of the time I drive it that day.

I bought it in June of this year with 21k miles and it had the problem back then. That leads me to think it is nothing that I have done but obviously a preexisting problem. It does this on hot and cold days with really no preference to either temperature. I moved from Pittsburgh to Tampa this summer and it has had the problem in both climates.

I would say it only happens about once or twice a week but sometimes none. Its not a major problem I would say but it is extremely annoying when it happens because I cannot figure out why. I would truly appreciate any help on the matter and thanks to anyone who replies.

Thanks,

-Matt
