Down side of ram air style without a good filter (and even with one sometimes) is water. Wouldn't want to hydra-lock your engine with a direct open air induction system.

Had a friend who (against my better judgment) put a CAI ram air system in his lower bumper, went through a puddle and hydra-locked the engine. Insurance covered it though.

But am somewhat weary of too much water being able to easily access the filter. Never really tested to see how much water actually gets in to that area vs my current filter location but haven't really had a reason to check either.

Adding on to what Nuke said, you need to do more work to make a huge difference in flow. Like porting heads and ensuring all the air that goes in can get out fast enough. A larger throttle body would be nice, if our intake manifolds were bigger. Since they are not, and also not metal (no porting on thin walled plastic), and no aftermarket intake plenums exist, we are stuck without any cheap options to drastically increase the flow beyond a standard intake tube.

I think I'll go pop the hood and get a parts list going - and design the duct.

Since I don't have the GT fogs, or a functional hood scoop, I'll need to figure something out
