A review of the Mustang exhaust parts (thanks to afixer) confirmed my suspicions and shows that the stock '05 V6 muffler has the exact same part number (Ford 5230) as the right side V8 GT muffler!

Can anybody confirm this through hands-on experience? I've read several posts about people swapping the GT for the V6 and claiming "how much better it sounds."

I cannot comment as to whether or not the part numbers are the same, but the parts ARE different. I installed a GT take-off muffler and the exhaust tip is not the same. The GT tip is larger and comes straight out, but I believe the V6 muffler tip actually tips down. The sound is MUCH IMPROVED. I darned near used up the battery in my remote start just so I can hear it. The sound with the top down is SO sweet - louder, but not obnoxious. The wife (who complains about the '66 hurting her ears) even likes it better now. I highly recommend upgrading to the GT muffler(s).

I test drove a GT the other day and my V6 sounded better with the one side upgraded to the Magnaflow muffler than the GT did with the dual mufflers. I would upgrade to either a Flowmaster or Magnaflow.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm getting a used pair of GT take-off mufflers, and will compair the tips closely once they get here.

Already ordering the other parts for the true dual (with Magnaflow X-over), so I'll use the GT-take offs for a while. If I want more/different sound, I'll go for something else on the ends in the future.
