Default a notch on my belt...this time a respectable one

so today me and my buddy were driving down my two lane residential area, and beside me pulls up this '99 M3
at this area, there is a red light, then the two lanes merge to one in about 300ft after the light. So he pulls up beside me and starts reving his engine, and it gives off a pretty powerful growl, more than my car can give, being sure i was going to lose, i decide to go at it anyways. so right when it turns green, me and him fly. he gets about a foot in front of me for like the first 1/4th second, but right as my 2nd gear kicks in, i zip right past him, and at the end of the stretch i am a good two car lengths in front of him

i didnt expect a v6 to be this fast

Are you sure he was racing? The 99 M3s were pushing 240 HP and are lighter?

The 99 M3 has 240 HP @ 6000 RPM and 236TQ at 3800 RPM. Our cars are 210 hp at 5250 rpm and 240 TQ so we have more power available on the low end, i.e. a 1/4 mile. Still, I expected the race to be closer, but good kill.

At least among the permormance BMW's in the Boston area, many of these guys bought the car for just prestige, and a fair number of them can't begin to utilize the capabilities of the car they're rolling in. They just want the neighbors to take notice of their wheels

Yep, it's that way in the DC area too. There are M3 and other 3 series everywhere. I love it with a 4 door 3 series wants to go for a roll, makes me laugh.

lol yes i was sure that he was racing because i heard his tires screech, then at the next stop light he pulled into the left turn lane and goes "wow good run"
a lot of people here buy the M3s for presitge here also, but this guy obviously had it modded out, so he didnt seem like the kind of guy who got it for that reason
