Need Help with new rims
I have a 1989 lx fox body 5.0 which has the stock 15"x7 4 bolt rims. I want to upgrade to new ones but am not sure what size I can get. will 17x9 fit or will they rub??Do I need toget another set of 15"x7 or will a different size work..please help
I had an '85 GT with 2" drop and ran 245/40/17"s for many years. No rubbing issues, and could have gone wider w/o a prob. If you rotate the dampner shock in rear, hear tell, you can squeeze a set of 10"s back there. I have little doubt you can get 265/35/17"son 9" rim under all four wells if you do some digging around. The biggest problem I found looking for wheels I liked, was off-set (seems to me it was +22 mm) and 4 bolt axles.
If you are willing to go the extra mile, I recommend upgrading to 4 wheel disc brakes and replace rear axles and front hub assemblies. You will be able to get 5 bolt pattern (many more options for wheels) and I believe theoff-set will be moved outward and will help as well. And as an added bonus, you will improve your brakes as well

I hate to admit, im not much of a car guy and I have no idea what the offset is. I just want to get new rims without modifying anything. I found a set of pony 5 star rims 16x7 that will work but i also found a set of cobra r rims 17x9 4 bolt. here is a link to the replica cbra rims....Will these fit without any mods being done??

They look fine
The ad says '87-'93 LX & GT and that is you[sm=yeahsmile.gif] and recommends 245/45/17"s. Has a couple nice customer reviews and some pics. Depending on what kind of ride/performace you are after, you may want to go lower profile. This will give you a slightly stiffer ride, butbetter response on corners and offer a little more clearance should you decide to lower your ride.
I wish those rims were available when I was looking.I would have bought those instead of the O.Z. Racing 8" ones I had.

EDIT: Thinking about it for a few minutes now, and 245's are a little narrow for a 9" rim (I have 275's on my 9" rim). My guess is that the 9" rim is pushing it a bit for your Stang, but is still alright. I would think that 255 or 265 possibly in a 40 series would have same overall diameter, and fill well a bit better. Ask some questions and maybe some pics of their recommended tire/wheel combo.
