Unhappy Unsolvable problem please HELP 2001 Mustang GT stalling

I own a 2001 Mustang GT and recently have been having problems with keeping the car running. I'll start by saying that the car is not throwing any codes. When starting the car, it will crank and instantly die only SOMETIMES. It starts and runs fine 85% of the time. When it is about to die and the RPMs drop, I can gas it awhile and sometimes that works, other times it'll still die. Also the exhaust smells like gas when I do that. Any idea what's wrong? Fuel pump or fuel filter maybe? Thanks in advance

I also want to add that the reason I'm posting this is because today I could absolutely not get it to start and stay on. It would stall out within 2 seconds and I only got it to start by flooring the pedal and throwing it in gear. Then it was if nothing was wrong and it idled smoothly. Drove it home no problems and started again at home as well.

Where is this located? And how do I check if it's functioning properly?

Be prepared to just buy a replacement IAC soon. Cleaning it of carbon/oil etc deposits as you just did is typically a band-aid at best.
