04 GT has gotten sluggish
I have a stock automatic 04 GT that has lost a step somewhere. It has slowed 1/2 a second in the 1/8 and almost a full second and 6 mph in the 1/4 mile. WOT it feels like it wants to go but something is holding it back. Almost like running into the wind. I haven't been to the track since getting new fuel filter/air filter and spark plugs but it still don't feel right. Any thoughts on what to try next?

the thing is, over the inter-web we can only guess with the little information given. I see you replaced the fuel filter, why didn't you replace the pump too? Also, any codes? mileage? what maintenance?

Well school boy, the pump never crossed my mind. Hmm It has 182,000 miles on it and maintenance has been pretty much kept up with all along. It had 36,000 when I bought it. No codes showing.

With that kind of mileage and the original pump, I would look at change the fuel pump. I'm willing to bet it does fine at idle and part throttle but wore enough it cannot keep up with fuel demands at full throttle. As cheap as the svt focus pump is, I would go with that. It will have a little more flow capacity if you ever decide on mods more than bolt ons and is a drop in pump.

100k more than mine.
Off topic, but may I ask you a question? I also have an 04,purchased new,and well maintained by me.Mine has just 81k.
Since buying yours, what parts or issues have you had to deal with, other than routine service items? Thanks.

school boy I hadn't thought of it that way. I will look into a fuel pressure test. That does make sense. Thank You!!
Camster I haven't really had many problems with mine. I've had to replace the
alternator once, 2 batteries, clutches in the rear end, and the intake manifold. It developed a crack and was seeping antifreeze. It is a daily driver but it sees time at the track also, but not as much as it used to.

Thank you. That's good service out of yours.Mine is a second car-just a cruiser, never at the track.I've replaced the manifold too.Next on my agenda is getting the ABS module repaired.Another common issue apparently.(I think that I can get it out without disconnecting the brake lines, and there are two fellows on ebay that will make the solder repairs, though I could probably do that as well) Yours has the original clutch? Mine might have a little shudder for a mile or two,but is perfectly fine thereafter.
Everything else has been pretty good, though I think that I need an alignment to rectify front inner tire scalloping.
Have you checked yours for vacuum leaks?
