What advance for 351W ignition ?

Your ignition will also have an effect on your timing. With the MSD ignition box, dizzy and coil, the dyno showed that my car liked 12* BTDC best on '91 octane at a few hundred feet above sea level.

I'm set at about 8 or 9 BTDC. Like some others, 6 just seems too low for my engine to operate at it's peak. Like Soaring, I first set the timing with the light, then turn the distributor slightly one way or the other to hear the engine ease up and seem to breathe better. That's where I lock her down and check it with the light again.

Wow, that is some pretty high octane stuff you're running. For the timing curve, I imagine you'd have to look to the manufacturer of your dizzy. MSDs, for instance, come with heavy silver, light blue and light silver springs as well as curves showing the effect of each combination on timing.

We call regular gas 87 octane, mid range is 89 and premium is 91-93. I find it difficult to locate 93 octane for my Mach, so it gets to use 91. The computer adjusts though, so I'm not hurting anything.

The octane numbers in Europe and The USA are NOT the same. European 95 oct. is equivalent to US 90-91, in other words "regular gas".
