Default New door hinges and some questions

I am going to replace the upper and lower hinges on my driver's side door. The door drops about a 1/4" when opening so I am assuming they are worn.

Soooooooooo the hinges are black and I would love to paint them, but in my experience I always seem to paint things and then ruin the finish during assembly. It always goes that way with me... last coat of paint then promptly drop on the ground.

Should I install the hinges and then mask off the surrounding area and then paint after I get them adjusted???

Oh and how heavy are the doors? I was going to use my tranny jack with a blanket to help with removal and install.

Ugggggh after some reading... can I just replace the pins and bushings????

The problem with painting the hinges off the car, is exactly what you said, adjusting the doors, which isn't hard, just takes some time and there is a good chance that you will mar them up.

I would rebuild the hinges, adjust the doors, and paint the hinges. The doors are somewhat heavy and wielding to handle with all the glass and internals installed.

Much easier if you do one hinge at a time. Just support the door with a well-padded floor jack.

Do I have to remove the fender or can I get the top hinge in and out without removing it? I purchased both hinges, but I believe it's just the top one that is worn.

Easy, then, just rebuild it with new pin and bushings. There are special wrenches for doing hinges.
