We Have New Mustang Shelby GT500 Renderings!

Is this our best look yet at the most powerful Mustang ever?

With Dodge’s Hellcat twins and Chevrolet’s new Corvette ZR1, Ford is late to the 700-plus horsepower club. But the upcoming Shelby GT500 could address that issue with huge power under the hood of the current Mustang. Leaked photographs of the as-yet-unannounced GT500 seem to show it using a supercharged version of the already-awesome Voodoo 5.2-liter V8 found in the GT350. That naturally-aspirated version of the engine makes 526 horsepower, and with forced induction should, at the very least, outpace Chevrolet’s Camaro ZL1 with 650 horses. Some rumors have placed the GT500’s power output somewhere in the upper-700s, which would just be bonkers.

Further leaks indicate that the upcoming GT500’s supercharger may be a massive twin-scroll unit, similar to that found under the hood of a Hellcat. Other photos seem to show the car with massive Brembo-developed brakes. In both cases, we’re seriously impressed with what this car could very well be. As you are no doubt aware, some S550 Mustangs have center splined hubs on the front axle, which have prompted rumors of an all-wheel-drive Mustang coming soon. The leaked photos of the alleged GT500 front hubs also feature that splined center bore.
